Western society as a whole is going in an abyss , some thing built on materialism can survive so long since progress has limits on a finite planet and as rate of return is decreasing and chaos increasing its finding itself in a difficult spot.

Lot of other ideas are also failing, for ex Liberalism which state people has their own truth and are allowed to follow them and nation state will provide necessary means to unite them , but than certain power hungry group ( Capitalist) took over the system and essentially running and states are become authoritative since people are busy following their own desires and individuality , so if state fails to address problems like homelessness, inequality ; who cares people are busy with their own entertainment
