not sure why people keep the argument that there is a fight between religion vs science ( not denying religion people has been anti progress ; but its more to do with retaining power and control rather than the text itself) ; yes we are obliged to debate if text say do not use reason , do not explore , do not use rationality

there is a difference between claiming and following, so for e.g a person would say alcohol is bad cause harm; but still consume it ; so the stats or knowledge did not help here ( same goes for gambling, drugs, etc which most religion prohibits);

also for example, Muslim were pretty progressive and inventive in their golden age but not so much for may be a century now; what changed religious teaching/book are same ; what change is the attitude. condition , approach of Muslim countries
