i think its by design , US has been weakening Europe and in absence of any European leader with a spine they are just playing to America tune for decades and now far behind in term of military capabilities kind of depend even more on US ( and Israel)

Evangelicals Christians also has a role to play here; here there objective meet with necons ; as based on their theology they need a greater Israel which align well if Europe led by Germany get into a conflict with Russia/Iran; this will create a power vacuum and ability to expand
