I have not read much into the account of Rome at that time; but considering they accept Jews blasphemy request against Jesus they wanted to form a cohesive society or they think Jesus might challenge them in future and its better to deal with Jewish .. Later on I think when Constantine accepted Christianity; I believe that is more of a strategic and political move to unite the kingdom on a strong ideology and purpose
