good write , i agree to few points to disagree, wrote some thing on another ( a little lazy to write now , but i think it applies here as well)
I wrote few things along the line (links below) , as a theist I find a society can only survive one based on Justice ( not on narrative , science, any other idols)
we human need religion because we are not good at balancing for e.g between man and women, worker and organization, citizen, and state, constructing of a good/core family.
Similarly, we cannot have unlimited freedom, and cannot come to a definition of morality, hence religion is needed. so it comes with dos and don’ts to keep ourselves on track and disciplined.
We are mortals and make mistakes and forget all the happiness and provisions given by God (irrespective if we believe it or not) so God has given consciousness send prophets to guide.
If we did not in believe in higher or ultimate self, we will end up bowing down to some one if not some idol then one own desire (which will lead to despair and meaninglessness)
Not going into debate which religion is right or wrong, or has caused so much suffering but than we have to realize (from a theist perspective) there is Satan and his party who are against human, wants them to be divided and confused from the unity of God
In short human endeavor should be to find truth and beauty, its greatest enemy is fear ( not lust of power, sex, …) which true faith can overcome, guiding principal is consciousness , sound heart ruling the mind and justice and balance as corner stone to forming any group ( family, nation , society)
