Commentary on End Time Prophecies

End time

Prophet Muhammad PBUH stated “I was sent to you at a time when the Last Day is very close like these two fingers.”, The coming of Muhammad PBUH is itself a sign of the last of days. Only Allah almighty wills when some event will happen and how will happen

The objective of this article is to find guidance in the Quran and Hadith. Then apply this guidance in our struggle to create a free and fair world. A world free of suffering, colonization, and racism.

And try to determine a course of action based on it; which is relevant to our time.

Anything revealed through the Quran is for a reason and we agree Quran is a book of wisdom and guidance for all time and events; so it's required for a believer to dive into it, question it, and try if based on events and happening if it opens new avenues which we can take help from.

Caution: We need to have a balanced approach when approaching end-time prophecies, and the attitude should not put it on a back burner considering that event will transpire when it is supposed to happen and nothing can be done based on that knowledge and similarly on other extreme do not take any drastic or extreme action based on it. Since only Allah when and how it will happen.

Verse 1: Land of Palestine

Verse1: Quran 21:95–97) And there is a prohibition upon [the people of] a city which We have destroyed that they will [ever] return, Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend

The above Quranic text is most probably referring to the land of Palestine ( Jerusalem) since we know from history and the Quran that Jews were moved out of the land in the time of Romans and were not returned (as a state) until the Balfour declaration in 1917 and the creation of Israel in 1948

As per the Quran Jews are chosen people and were sent prophet after prophet but they rejected and even tried and conspire to kill Essa AS

“Indeed, We took the covenant from the Children of Israel and sent them messengers. Whenever there came to them a messenger with what their souls did not desire, a group [of the prophets] they denied, and another group they killed.” [05:70]

So when Romans accepted Christianity ( from Paganism) and realized Jews conspired in the crucifixion of Jesus AS, they started persecuting them and

After Umar RA conquered Jerusalem, they were allowed to settle in the city after 500 years of oppression under Roman rule. ( need more research on how the population changed before the time of Jesus and during Roman rule and then the conversion of Constantinople to Christianity)

In 1800, about 6,500 Jews were living in Palestine.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tens of thousands of Jewish immigrants began arriving in Palestine and establishing new Jewish settlements. These immigrants were largely motivated by nationalism and a desire to live in the land of their ancestors as Zionism,

In 1947, approximately 630,000 Jews were living alongside approximately 1.2 million Arabs in Palestine. According to census data

Thesis

1. we establish from Verse that a city that was destroyed and its inhabitants were not allowed to return, started coming back after 500 years
2. The Jewish population over time increases, especially after the creation of the state and then later because of persecution

3. We have not touched on how this movement of Jews to the holy land is related to Gog and Magog, but definitely, there is a link, since the verse above mentions Gog and Magog after its inhabitants started to return, we can back to it later.

Gog and Magog

who are Gog and Magog, this is very hard to determine, are they certain nations or a set of characteristics of a set of people and where are they located today?

Let's look at other verses in the Quran which mention Gog and Magog

Verse 2) [Surah al-Kahf 18:92–99]

“Then he followed (another) way, until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. They said: ‘O Dhoo’l-Qarnayn! Verily! Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute so that you might erect a barrier between us and them?’ He said: ‘That (wealth, authority, and power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. Give me pieces (blocks) or iron,’ then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain cliffs, he said, ‘Blow,’ till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said, ‘Bring me molten copper to pour over it.’ So they [Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj] were made powerless to scale it or dig through it. (Dhoo’l-Qarnayn) said: ‘This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true.’ And on that Day [i.e., the day Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will come out], We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together.”

Explanation:

1. Dhu al-Qarnayn, (Arabic: ذُو ٱلْقَرْنَيْن, romanized: Ḏū l-Qarnayn, IPA: [ðuː‿l.qarˈnajn]; lit. “The Two-Horned One or someone who has two shadows or ages; could be an indication to use this word in the Quran for someone coming later with similar attributes.
2. Jews asked about Dhu al-Qarnayn because it's related to their history, and this ruler could potentially be Cyrus the Great ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhu_al-Qarnayn)
3. Cyrus helped Jews settle back to their holy land by defeating the Babylon empire (He set the Jews free from their Babylonian Captivity that had taken place decades before. 4. Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj, are people like humans and not hidden
5. Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj, are mischievous people who do corruption in the land, a set of people who are good at destroying things
6. Some people think Dhu al-Qarnayn could be Alexander the Great ( but he is a disbeliever and not a just ruler); also it's not important to this discourse
7. this place where Dhu al-Qarnayn traveled is said to be in Caucus mountain
8. The historians say that Nuh (peace be upon him) had three children: Sam, Ham, and Japheth. Sam is the father of the Arabs, the Persians, and the Romans. Ham is the father of the blacks. Japheth is the father of the Turkic peoples, the Khazars, the Slavic peoples, and the Gog and Magog. The two words Ya’juj and Ma’juj are from the expression, “Ujiju al-nar” which refers to the light that fire gives off and to its sparks. They were likened to it due to their sheer numerous and harsh nature.
9. Ibn Masud said, “I asked the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace) about Gog and Magog. He said, ‘They are a group of nations. Each nation consists of four hundred thousand people. 10. The verse does not say that the barrier will hold till the end of time and it was broken at the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH ( hadith1)
11. There may be multiple pourings of Gog and Magog starting after the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH to the end of time when the trumpet will be blown ( where everyone in human and Jinn will be collected)
12. Dhu al-Qarnayn used “This is a mercy from my Lord” to the barrier, instead of attributing it to his power and effort; is it possible that this barrier has special qualities ( as described in Hadith 5)

Thesis

1. Gog and Magog are human, and most probably should have established themselves above Caucuses Mountain ( could be from Europe, Russia, or China)
2. Could be one nation or multiple nations ( since modern nations are a new concept)
3. Dhu al-Qarnayn did not fight them, maybe they were too many, or the terrain did not allow it or you could not fight them since they were too powerful to defeat.
4. Gog and Magog do fasaad ( destructions) or corruption in the land, that is destroy things, so instead of making an agreement or negotiation, Dhu al-Qarnayn decided to block them
5. they are harsh, fierce like fire, and are a lot in number ( potentially as referred to in Hadith 2)

3) Quran. [5:52] O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. And whoso among you takes them for friends is indeed one of them. Verily, Allah guides not the unjust people.

Explanation: these verses have a historical context related to the time of Prophet PBUH. Some people from the Muslim army had an “alliance” with the opposite army. They used to convince them in a way that their confidence broke (5:52). And they were afraid to go to the battlefield. It was breaking the unity of the army and it was being fragile. That’s why they were told to break such an alliance (5:51) and be solid and unify against them. The best translation of this verse is “be unyielding” or “uncollapsible”. If there is a lack of confidence within the soldiers, the army will collapse easily.

Quran prescribed fighting based on the “action” of the opponent, not by “faith”. Quran allows marrying Jews/Christians, how is that fighting? If a Muslim is an oppressor, fighting is allowed against that Muslim (49:9). If a non-Muslim is an oppressor, fighting is allowed against him (4:75). If a non-Muslim is not causing oppression on you then living with kindness is prescribed.

Quran allows Muslims to make friend with Jews and Christians and even marry them but allow not to ally with them during war especially when they are a friend of each other

Thesis

In our time it's quite easy to find an alliance of Jews and Christians known as Zionism, which is a national movement of establishing Jews in the holy land but this movement is a lot more powerful because Christian Zionists ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Zionism) are supporting which are mostly Evangelical Christian ( 1 in 4 Christians in US) because it ties to biblical prophecies of second coming of Jesus ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2018/05/14/half-of-evangelicals-support-israel-because-they-believe-it-is-important-for-fulfilling-end-times-prophecy/)

So Muslims should not ally with them; i.e. when Jews and Christians ally to fight Muslims ( which is happening in Palestine) and whoever does is amongst them ( we can call them Muslim Zionists); unfortunately, most Arabs are normalizing ties with them today. So as per the Quran verse, Arabs are part of that same alliance of Zionism and no one should make friends with them or expect any good from them.

2) Another important distinction is that most of the European Jews are Ashkenazi Jews and are called the 13 tribes so they are not linked to the 12 tribes of Bani Israel, but most probably converted later also it's possible that a few members from Bani Israel when dispersing went and settle in Europe. Today Ashkenazim constitute more than 80 percent of all the Jews in the world, vastly outnumbering Sephardic Jews. In the early 21st century, Ashkenazic Jews numbered about 11 million. So if we deduce that North Western European countries are part of the Gog and Magog tribes then it would not be wrong to state that Most Jews today are part of the same set of people ( with the same characteristics)

Hadith

1. Narrated by Zainab bint Jahsh, “That the Prophet once came to her in a state of fear and said, “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. Woe unto the Arabs from a danger that has come near. An opening has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog like this,” making a circle with his thumb and index finger. Zainab bint Jahsh said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Shall we be destroyed even though there are pious persons among us?” He said, “Yes, when the evil person will increase.” Volume 4, Book 55, Number 565.

Explanation: Hadith is pretty self-explanatory, that Gog and Magog breached the barrier in the time of Prophet Muhammad, and as Gog and Magog descend it will bring destruction to Arab land;

Thesis: For most of history Ottomans blocked the Europeans from coming down and protected the Arab land; we see the destruction to Arabs at the hands of Mongols. But after Otommon downfall and around the same time Oil was discovered. So Brits made Arabs fight the Otommon and in return allot them countries. Could this be the beginning of the destruction of Arab land and its people at the hands of Gog and Magog?

2) Narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri, “The Prophet said, “Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection), ‘O Adam.’ Adam will reply, ‘Labbaik wa Sa’daik’, and all the good is in Your Hand.’ Allah will say: ‘Bring out the people of the fire.’ Adam will say: ‘O Allah! How many are the people of the Fire?’ Allah will reply: ‘From every one thousand, take out nine-hundred-and ninety-nine.’ At that time children will become hoary-headed, every pregnant female will have a miscarriage, and one will see mankind as drunken, yet they will not be drunken, but dreadful will be the Wrath of Allah.” The companions of the Prophet asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is that (excepted) one?” He said, “Rejoice with glad tidings; one person will be from you and one thousand will be from Gog and Magog.” The Prophet further said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is, hope that you will be one-fourth of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He added, “I hope that you will be one-third of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He said, “I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He further said, “You (Muslims) (compared with non-Muslims) are like a black hair in the skin of a white ox or like a white hair in the skin of a black ox (i.e. your number is very small as compared with theirs).” Volume 4, Book 55, Number 567.

Explanation: these Hadith mention Gog and Magog, explaining their number will be huge compared to who will go in Paradies.

Prophet PBUH may be comparing Arabs to Gog and Magog or comparing the whole of Muslims to Gog and Magog. Or is he comparing the number of Sahbah to Gog and Magog? But in any explanation, they will be huge in numbers comparatively.

Question: Is it possible that those who supported Gog and Magog, are considered part of them and hence are huge in number or they are huge on their own?

3) Ibn Harmalah related that his Khaala (aunt from the mother’s side) said, “The Messenger of Allah gave a sermon and he had his finger bandaged from the bite of a scorpion. He ra.” said, “Indeed you see that you have no enemy. But you will continue to fight an enemy until Yajooj and Majooj (Gog and Magog) come out; they have wide faces, small eyes, and Suhb (blondness or redness in their hair). They will come quickly from every mound, and their faces are like shields.” (Ahmad)

Explanation: this could be referring to Mongols as the description of enemy matches to them and as they descend from the mountain on horseback.

Thesis: If we do not argue on the mapping of hadith on Mongols; then we can safely say Mongols are one of the tribes of Gog and Magog.

Potentially China can be part of it.

4) Al-Nawaas ibn Sam’aan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while describing the signs of the Day of judgment said: “… and Allah will send Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj, swiftly swarming from every mound. They will pass the lake of Tiberias [in Palestine] and will drink everything that is in it. Then the last of them will pass by and will say, ‘There used to be water here once.’ The Prophet of Allah, Eesaa (Jesus), and his companions will be besieged until a bull’s head will be more precious to one of them than a hundred dinars are to any of you today. Eesaa (Jesus) and his companions will pray to Allah, and Allah will send a kind of worm (like that found in the noses of camels and sheep) on their (Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj) necks, and they will fall down dead, all at once. Then Eesaa (Jesus) and his companions will come down out of the place where they were besieged, and they will find hardly a hand span of land that is not filled with the stench (of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj), so Eesaa (Jesus) and his companions will pray to Allah, and He will send birds like the necks of camels to carry them away and throw them wherever Allah wills.” (Reported by Muslim, 18/68).

Similar as above ( with different narration)

“Narrated al-Nawwas ibn Sam’an: ….It will be under such conditions that Allah will reveal to Jesus these words: I have brought forth from among My servant's such people against whom none will be able to fight; you take these people safely to Tur, and then Allah will send Gog and Magog and they will swarm down from every slope. The first of them will pass the lake of Tiberius (i.e., the Sea of Galilee) and drink out of it. And when the last of them passes, he will say: There was once water there …. ”

another narration “And then Allah will send Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog people) and they will swarm down from every slope. The first of them will pass Lake Tabariyah (near the Dead Sea in Palestine) and drink all its water. And when the last of them will pass, he will say: `There was once water there.’ (They will prevail over the earth, then their leader will say: ‘These are the people of the earth, and we have finished them off. Now let us fight the people of heaven!’ Then one of them will throw his spear towards the sky, and it will come back down smeared with blood. And they will say: ‘We have killed the people of heaven. (Sunan Ibn Majah 4079).”

Explanation: This is a very long hadith for time after Prophet Essa defeats Dajjal; and end of it Gog and Magog appear, assumingly Jesus AS is in Palestine and if people are coming from Northwestern Europe then Sea of Galilee; will come on the way but if people are coming from Eastern Europe or Central Asia sea of Galilee will not come in way

Thesis:

As we noted Gog and Magog are too many compared to Essa AS and its army so instead of fighting they will get to a mountain ( as in other narration that Gog and Magog will send spears and it will be returned red)

So Jesus AS did not fight ( or better strategy was) and then with Allah help Gog and Magog will be destroyed. Note that they will be even hungry and deprived of food as per the narration but still decide to protect themselves by avoiding the fight.

5) “Gog and Magog people dig every day until, when they can almost see the rays of the sun, the one in charge of them says: “Go back and we will dig it tomorrow.” Then Allah puts it back, stronger than it was before. (This will continue) until, when their time has come, and Allah wants to send them against the people, they will dig until they can almost see the rays of the sun, then the one who is in charge of them will say: “Go back, and we will dig it tomorrow if Allah wills.’ So they will say: “If Allah wills.” Then they will come back to it and it will be as they left it. So they will dig and will come out to the people, and they will drink all the water. The people will fortify themselves against them in their fortresses. They will shoot their arrows towards the sky and they will come back with blood on them, and they will say: “We have defeated the people of earth and dominated the people of heaven.” Then Allah will send a worm in the napes of their necks and will kill them thereby.’” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the beasts of the earth will grow fat on their flesh.”

Explanation: A lot of Scholars, in their explanation of this hadith, come to conclude that Gog and Magog are stuck somewhere on earth and at a certain time will appear; but it conflicts with Hdith 1 ( where the Prophet said a hold has been made).

One possible explanation could be that from the time of Dhul Quarnain who built the barrier to Prophet Muhammad PBUH time they were digging and Allah rebuilt it when they returned for the day ( as Dhul Quarnain mentioned in the Quran verse that Allah will bring down the barrier and attributed the barrier to the mercy of Allah).

But the second part of Hadith does not tie, to the above explanation; as after digging once they are out; the scenario described is more related to the time of Jesus AS when Gog and Magog were released (Hadith 4)

6) Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The Hour will not occur until the Euphrates recedes, uncovering a mountain of gold over which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of every hundred will be killed. Every man among them will say: ‘I might be the one who survives.’” Another narration states: “Soon the Euphrates will recede uncovering a treasure of gold. Whoever is present at this event should not take anything from it.”
Sahih/Authentic. — [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Explanation: Is it really good or an allegory to Oil, Euphrates is in modern-day Iraq, and it's drying up quickly. we know Oil was discovered in 1950 and then sales were tied to the Dollar ( for the last 50 years Dollar has not been backed by a Gold reserve, as it was earlier, and the Dollar is considered a benchmark like Gold was in previous times)

Thesis: It could be an actual gold mountain as well, so instruction is to be away from it as far as one can be as it will cause 99 out of 100 people to die who try to get to it. In history, this is not something that has not happened ( as per historical records) in which 99 combatants were dead out of 100.

But if it's linked to Oil ( instead of real Gold Mountain) then does it indicate that Arab leaders who are dealing in Oil and Western Powers who are trying to control the flow and production will cause each other harm and will cause huge war and repercussions?

7) The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The flourishing state of Jerusalem will be when Yathrib is in ruins, the ruined state of Yathrib will be when the great war comes, the outbreak of the great war will be at the conquest of Constantinople, and the conquest of Constantinople when the Dajjal (Antichrist) comes forth. He (the Prophet) struck his thigh or his shoulder with his hand and said: This is as true as you are here or as you are sitting (meaning Mu’adh ibn Jabal).

Explanation: Jerusalem, will be moving toward center stage, as of writing this War between Israel and Hamas is proceeding, and an indication from the above hadith is that Jerusalem will take center stage or prominent state in the world ( Like Washington DC is a capital of a big superpower ) when this happens Yathrib ( Madina) will be in ruins ( desolation) which means it has no value or role in modern day affair of the world ( could also mean that people will reduce going to Madina), after that, there will be a great war and its possible Constantinople will be conquest by non-Muslim armies (which is modern-day turkey); which Muslims will reclaim and when that happens Dajjal will appear

Thesis: These events will appear in the future and will follow one after the other, first will be the flourishing of Jerusalem ( as Israel made its capital) and a lot of big giant companies have head offices there. This is linked to the First verse of the Quran in this article

Are all hadith legit and sahi or any are weak?

Why Jews asked about Zulqarnain ( for which Muhammad PBUH got the revelation, in Surah Kahaf)

Is there any way we can identify Gog and Magog?

Are Gog and Magog any nation or God will reveal them later?

Are Gog and Magog linked to the land of Palestine or not, and if they are how they will impact its dynamics?

Quran, 3rd one, is this specific to Prophet time or for all time, does it apply today to explain Zionism or not?

Hadith — 6, is this referring to Oil found in the Middle East or do we think actual gold mountain will come

Hadith — 7, are we in this time already, or this time will pass later?

Any interpretation lesson, or teaching we can take from these for ourselves and future generations?

Conclusion:

The main reason for picking these verses and hadith and putting commentary on them is to attempt to take guidance from the Quran and end-of-time hadiths. So individuals, groups, scholars, and countries can use them to guide their plans of action

Identification of Gog and Magog is important, because in both scenarios Dhulqurnain and Jesus AS despite being great leaders, strategize to not fight them but block them; so they cannot attack the common population.

Another distinctive feature of them is they are very good at destruction, instead of occupying a piece of land building it, and living harmoniously with the Native population they destroy things

Two hadith references indicate that they can be potentially North Western European countries ( as they will drink from the Sea of Galilee when coming to Palestine) and by extension the USA.

North Western European countries have mostly been part of, Cololinism and in the last 70 years of US rule we have seen how destructive and oppressive these forces are

Gog and Magog can fight among themselves as well ( as per their instincts these nations are easily provoked into fighting) these are forces that fight instinctively, hence there is also a lot of documented evidence in history

It stated that when Europe colonized, they were successful because they were superior in the use of techniques for fighting like gunpowder ( and ships as they had to by-pass Ottoman areas) and hence we see good at building fort ( https://www.quora.com/Why-did-castles-proliferate-in-Europe-more-than-other-places-in-the-world) .

European powers were not good with the natives ( comparing Muslim rule of India or Spain) instead they removed/killed natives bringing destruction to resources and looting them ( USA and Australia are examples).

Other Hadith could be a reference to Mongols ( based on face description) and in turn Chinese people.

Another attribute we found in hadith, they are very high in number compared to their opponent, who are low in number

They will help or play a part in bringing Jews back to the Holy Land; which through history we know is Britain initially and for the last 70 years or so been the USA along with its allies NATO

Historically Greece and Romans had a lot of internal conflicts and the same is the case with civilizations in China, once those conflicts were resolved they expanded, but there are lot of infighting within groups of people in both Europe and China that caused them to remain unstable and eventually decline. but now again all Western countries are relatively stable and it's in their genes to expand and cause destruction.

Further Research

If we are assuming Gog and Magog are Northwestern European nations ( including the US) and China Needs more research, on when these nations or earlier civilizations living in that area were defeated were it caused because they were weak at that instant due to infighting or internal conflict or some invading army were able to defeat them in a fair fight

The above verses and hadith can also be looked at from historical, Anthropological, and Genlogy angles, as we have more data to look at and interpret than earlier research.

Way forward

Based on these deductions, what is the way forward for an individual, living in Western countries

What is an effective way? to protect Muslim land from Gog and Magog?

Could there be a good mechanism to block Gog and Magog, rather than stopping them with force?

In terms of the Land of Palestine, could a better strategy be applied? to stop or slow more land from being occupied and pushing non-native people out of their land

Can the civil resistance movement be used to stop Gog and Magog in their tracks?

Can we expect any good from Arab leaders ( since they are Zionist as per the theology)

Set of events

Only Allah knows which event will happen and how these events will transpire, but based on the above hadith ( and a few more end-time prophecies ) below could be a set of events that can happen.

1. The USA will continue to push for more land in greater Israel, as Christian Zionism will control the congress, and it also meets other agendas like oil, trade routes, and geopolitics.

2. Dragging Iran into the conflict, could happen with a false flag, and Europe, the USA, and the Arab world will fight Iran — backed by Russia.

3. This could lead to oil crises (as a lot of oil passes through the Suez Canal) and Arab land, which would mean rising inflation and economic woes everywhere
